Dear Kurukulla Community,

Thank you for your interest in and support of the Center.

Geshe-la updateGeshe Tsulga

Like the rest of us, Geshe-la very much enjoyed Choden Rinpoche's 4-day visit to Kurukulla. Geshe-la continues to show great mental strength and radiance while manifesting some physical frailty. Nevertheless, Geshe-la climbed up a ladder to offer a multi-colored khatag to our amazing Kalachakra stupa yesterday, prior to its consecration.

In the meantime, we continue with the practices recommended for Geshe-la's recovery, good health and long life. The latest tallies are:

Vajrapani malas - 139
White Tara malas - 175
Animal liberations - 44

Thank you so much! Rejoice! If you would like to participate in these practices, please let us know. Of course, you can dedicate any practice you do to Geshe-la's good health and long life.

Choden Rinpoche's visit

What a wonderful time. Hard to express in words. Rinpoche gave wonderful teachings on the om mani padme hum mantra and mahamudra, and consecrated our stupa and explained the benefits of building them. Thank you to all who worked so hard to make this visit the huge success it was and who contributed the money we needed to cover all costs and make a nice offering to Rinpoche and his attendants.

Enjoy some pictures of the Kalachakra Stupa for Peace at Kurukulla Center Consecration ceremony here.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche's visit

We now look forward to Lama Zopa Rinpoche, our spiritual director, coming to also bless the stupa and talk about its benefits on September 8. Please stay tuned for more details. In the meantime we continue work on the Tara pond and the back yard to get it ready for Rinpoche.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche at Milarepa Center

Before he visits Kurukulla, Rinpoche will be at Milarepa September 2 through 5 to give a Milarepa initiation and lead a retreat. Some people are coming from out of town for this and will need rides. If you are going on Thursday and can take one or two people, mainly sangha, please let Tsultrim know ASAP, either by email or phone (508.615.4730). Several Kurukulla people will be going but our regular program continues as below.

Thank you again for your wonderful support.

Much love,

Nicholas Ribush, Director

Guru Puja (Lama Chopa)Lama Chopa

7:00 pm - 8:45 pm

The word puja means "to please" and has the connotation to please through offerings and practice. The Guru Puja lays the whole path to enlightenment on our mindstream, connects us more strongly to our teachers, allows us to accumulate skies of merit and purifies eons of negative karma. We perform this practice on the 10th and 25th of the lunar Tibetan calendar, a time that is special for making the "tsok" offering, a particular ritual inserted into the Guru Puja. We chant the first 2/3rds of this puja in Tibetan and the last 1/3 we recite in English.

To create merit, positive connection, it is traditional to bring offerings for the altar, which then becomes the basis for the visualized offerings made during the puja; cookies, fruit, flowers, tea lights (unscented), or saffron are suggested.

All are welcome.

Copies of Guide to a Bodhisattva's Way of Life and a commentary on this chapter by His Holiness the Dalai Lama, Transcendent Wisdom, are available for purchase in our bookstore. We will also distribute a copy of Chapter 9 to all class participants.  Feel free to listen live online.
