Dear Kurukulla Community, Many Thanks to Ven. Amy Miller from Milarepa Center Support Kurukulla Center
We are delighted that our resident teacher Geshe Tenley will present a general interest talk one Sunday morning each month. These talks will be pragmatic and suitable for anyone interested in exploring effective techniques for dealing with life's difficulties according to the Buddhist view. No background in Buddhism is necessary. This is a wonderful opportunity to introduce your friends to Kurukulla Center and what is so special about Buddhism. Geshe-la wants to give us a chance to get out of our texts one week each month and think more directly about how to apply these teachings to our everyday life! Children are Welcome! Resident nun Tsunma-la (Ven. Sue Macy) will offer a youth class, ages 6-13, to run concurrently with this public talk. Sun. Feb 27: Extinguishing Anger's Flame We will be offering a brief "Orientation to Kurukulla Center" each of these Sundays after class at 12:30 pm, for any newcomers and for any of us who might have a lingering question here or there. Visit www.kurukulla.org/PublicTalks for more information about each talk, as well as to download a flyer for the series, which we encourage you to email and post widely! Morning Meditation with Ven. Tsunma-la (Sue Macy) 6:30 am - 7:00 am Resident nun Tsunma-la continues the Morning Meditation series on Fridays with a variation on the stabilizing meditations that have been offered earlier. The focus is now using our analytical mind to investigate core Buddhist concepts as a way to deepen our understanding of them. If you plan to join Tsunma-la in the meditation hall (gompa) at Kurukulla Center, please arrive a few minutes early. We will start promptly at 6:30 am. If you cannot make it into the Center, you are also welcome to participate from your home by listening on-line to the live broadcast.
Medicine Buddha Puja 700 pm - 8:15 pm Puja is a Sanskrit word that means pleasing by making offerings. Making offering prayers to the Medicine Buddhas is the same as offering to numberless buddhas and brings inconceivable merit like the limitless sky. The special mantra of the Medicine Buddha quickly actualizes prayers that the Medicine Buddhas made in the past: to bring happiness to all beings by showing them the causes of enlightenment, pacifying their problems, fulfilling their positive wishes and, especially, helping those afflicted by illness. The Medicine Buddha practice is extremely powerful and beneficial for the sick and dying, helps those who have already passed away, allows those practicing healing methods to benefit others more profoundly and helps bring success in general. All are welcome.
Sunday February 20
Liberation in the Palm of Your Hands with Geshe Ngawang Tenley 10:00 am - 12:00 pm Pabongka Rinpoche's Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand is the seminal lam-rim text of the 20th century. It is a transcription of a 24 day lam rim teaching given in 1921. Offered as a "practical teaching," it is less scholarly than Je Tsongkhapa's Jang chub lam rim chen mo or The Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment and as such it is the text from which most modern lamas teach lam rim. Today Geshe-la gives commentary on Day 3, on the greatness of the Dharma and how to study and teach Dharma. If you cannot make it into the Center, you are also welcome to participate from your home by listening on-line to the live broadcast. |
