Tenets with Geshe Tenley

Tenets explains the philosophical systems of the four main schools of Buddhist thought. These tenets represent increasing subtle understandings of the Buddhist view of emptiness. While students are often exposed to the Madhyamika view, which presents the most sophisticated philosophical premises, it is not often that the other tenets are presented. Yet without the background of the earlier and less accurate views, it is difficult to fully comprehend the most sophisticated one. This is an opportunity to see how the profound Madhyamika view evolved from and complements the more elementary teachings of the Vaibhashika, Sautrantika and Cittamatra schools. By attending this course, you can deepen your understanding of the Buddhist view of reality and get an overview of the entire wing of Buddhist wisdom.

Geshe Tenley will devote three to four weeks to each of the Buddhist schools. It is not necessary to register in advance. All are welcome. Some reading and study outside of class is expected. This is a great opportunity—don’t miss it!

Geshe Ngawang Tenley, who came to Kurukulla from Sera Je monastery in the spring of 2004, has been a monk for over fifteen years. He is Geshe Tsulga's nephew and serves as his attendant. He recently completed his final exams and was conferred the Geshe degree at Sera Je Monastery. His cheerfulness and humility endear him to everyone he meets.

All are welcome!
