The Twelve Links of Dependent Origination. (1/2)

(To avoid confusion and receive the greatest benefit from this teaching, we recommend attending both days)

The theory of the twelve links of dependent origination, or dependent arising, was taught by the Buddha to show the process of cause and effect (karma) by which the circumstances of cyclic existence (taking rebirth again and again) arise. The great variety of effects that we experience as life in samsara (the cycle of existence) arise from a conjunction of many, many different causes and conditions. There is nothing that arises without depending on causes and conditions. When something arises, it always depends on something else.

In this series, Geshe Sherab will explain how each link in this chain of causality gives rise to the next link. Geshela will give advice on how we can interrupt this process of samsaric evolution by cutting the causal links at certain points.

This series is a perfect follow-up for those who recently attended Ven. Tenzin Chogkyi's teachings on the same topic. Your understanding will be deepened. At the same time, this series is perfect for those who wish to dive into an exploration of karma, rebirth and the nature of reality.

Geshe Thubten Sherab was born in 1976 in a small village in the Western part of Nepal to Tibetan parents. He received his education at Kopan Monastery from the time he was a boy, and completed his geshe degree at Sera Je Monastic University in 2000. This was followed by a year of studies at Gyume Tantric College in India.

In 2001 Geshela came to the USA to work at the FPMT International Office. During that time he taught at several FPMT dharma centers in New Mexico. After two and a half years he returned to Nepal to be the Headmaster of Kopan Monastery. Recently Geshela retired from this role in order to have more time to devote to meditation and teaching internationally. The combination of his traditional training and his experience of living in America gives him a deep understanding of Western culture and makes his teachings especially compelling and profound.

For more on Geshe Sherab you can read this story and an interview that were published in FPMT Mandala magazine.

This program with Geshe Sherab is offered freely while acknowledging we have extra expenses when hosting visiting teachers. Please donate as you are able. Thank you!
