Meditation: Patience with Sean González

From the International Mahayana Institute book Spiritual Friends: Meditations,
“Patience is having an undisturbed mind even while encountering problems or while being harmed by people. We need to be able to keep our peace of mind and not lose our love and compassion for others. Once the conditions for harmful intent – the seed of habituation in the mind, closeness to the object, and wrong conceptualization – are complete, harmful intent will arise whether we want it or not. At present we are subconsciously conditioned to regard anger as something beneficial; therefore, we have a willingness to become angry. To overcome this conditioning we need to think very deeply about the faults of becoming angry and the benefits of practicing patience.”

Today we will perform a group guided meditation on “Patience.” We will follow the text form the Spiritual Friends: Meditations book and then discuss each aspect of the meditation as a group, seeking to share our individual viewpoints and increase our collective understanding of patience and its importance to our quest for enlightenment.

As with all our teachings, this class is offered free of charge. However, we do gratefully depend on the generosity of students and supporters to cover our substantial monthly expenses.

Sean González, the Kurukulla Center Director, became a student of the late Geshe Tsulga in 2004
