Nyung Nä Retreat with Wendy Cook

Friday, January 5, 7:00 PM to Monday, January 8, 8:00 AM

A Nyung Nä is an intensive retreat ideal for people whose busy schedules don't allow for longer retreats. Highly recommended by Lama Zopa Rinpoche, he describes it as a "practice that combines various skillful means to quickly complete the work of accumulating merit and purifying obscurations."

The Nyung Nä is based on devotion to the Great Compassionate Buddha, Thousand-armed Avalokiteshvara. During the three group sessions each day, we follow a meditation sadhana that includes visualizations, performing prostrations, reciting mantras and so forth. On Saturday and Sunday mornings the Eight Mahayana Precepts are taken before dawn. On Sunday the additional vows are taken to not to eat, drink (even water), or talk until sunrise Monday morning. After the final session on Monday morning participants have breakfast and rejoice!

Wendy Cook will lead the Nyung Na. She met His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 1987, Lama Zopa Rinpoche in 1988, and was Kurukulla Center Director from 2002-08. She considers leading a Nyung Nä and guiding people through this extraordinary and intensive practice, especially first-timers, a great privilege.

Prerequisites: One needs to have taken the Eight Mahayana Precepts from a qualified master at least once. Also one needs to have taken formal refuge OR been attending teachings regularly at Kurukulla Center for one year. Others may attend by permission. Please contact Wendy if you have any questions.

Preregistration required as the retreat is limited to 12-14 participants.

The suggested offering is $108 to cover costs and any additional proceeds will go towards the Kurukulla Center general fund.
