Lama Zopa Rinpoche Seven-Point Mind Training

At the heart of the Seven-Point Mind Training lies the idea that the circumstances that life brings us, however difficult, are the raw material from which we create our own spiritual path and transformation. The central theme of the Seven-Point Mind Training is to make the liberating shift from the constricting solitude of self-centeredness to the warm kinship with others which occurs with the cultivation of cherishing others. This mind training is especially well-suited for those with a busy life. It helps us to reexamine our relationships—to family, friends, enemies, and strangers—and gradually transform our responses to whatever life throws our way.

Geshe Chekawa Yeshe Dorje (1102–1176) was a prolific Kadampa Buddhist meditator and his text, the Seven-Point Mind Training, is revered as one of the most effective mind transformation teachings, explaining concise tools to transform adversity into the path to enlightenment.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche, the FPMT's Spiritual Director, was born in 1945 in Thami, not far from the Lawudo cave in the Mount Everest region of Nepal, where his previous incarnation, Lama Kunzang Yeshe, meditated for the last twenty years of his life. At the age of three Rinpoche was recognized as the reincarnation of the Lawudo Lama. From 1956 to 1959 he studied at Domo Monastery in Tibet, and in 1959, he fled Tibet in the wake of the Chinese occupation and continued his study and practice in Tibetan refugee camps in India, where he met Lama Thubten Yeshe (1935-1984), who became his principal teacher. In 1969, the Lamas began teaching Buddhism to Westerners at Kopan Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal. In 1974 they began traveling the world to spread the Dharma. Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche founded the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition in 1975.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche asked Dr. Nick Ribush to establish Kurukulla Center in 1989.
