Lama Zopa Rinpoche: Red Tara Initiation

Red Tara is a manifestation of one of the Twenty-One Taras and is particularly beneficial for removing obstacles to one’s dharma practice and life, and for increasing wealth—especially resources needed to engage in dharma practice. The practice of Red Tara also creates a cause that increases longevity.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche will confer this as a Kriya Tantra initiation, the first of the tantric levels. This initiation cannot be taken as a blessing.

The Red Tara sadhana can be downloaded from the FPMT Foundation Store.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche, the FPMT's Spiritual Director, was born in 1945 in Thami, not far from the Lawudo cave in the Mount Everest region of Nepal, where his previous incarnation, Lama Kunzang Yeshe, meditated for the last twenty years of his life. At the age of three Rinpoche was recognized as the reincarnation of the Lawudo Lama. From 1956 to 1959 he studied at Domo Monastery in Tibet, and in 1959, he fled Tibet in the wake of the Chinese occupation and continued his study and practice in Tibetan refugee camps in India, where he met Lama Thubten Yeshe (1935-1984), who became his principal teacher. In 1969, the Lamas began teaching Buddhism to Westerners at Kopan Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal. In 1974 they began traveling the world to spread the Dharma. Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche founded the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition in 1975.

Lama Zopa Rinpoche asked Dr. Nick Ribush to establish Kurukulla Center in 1989.
