Sometimes our Dharma practice doesn't seem to bring good results. This is because our negative karma is creating obstacles. Therefore, we need to engage in purification, an essential practice on the path to enlightenment.
Vajrasattva is a powerful tantric purification practice with many benefits. We loosen, uproot, and purify our negative habits and karmic imprints, thus allowing more space for our enlightened qualities of love, wisdom, compassion, strength and so forth, to grow. Vajrasattva Buddha is the manifestation of the complete purity of the enlightened state. Out of their great compassion and limitless love, the buddhas and bodhisattvas have manifested their collected purity in Vajrasattva so that we can identify ourselves with his qualities.
Lama Zopa Rinpoche will confer this as a Kriya Tantra initiation, the first of the tantric levels.
Our current understanding is that the initiation cannot be taken as a blessing. However, please check our website for late-breaking updates, as things can change on a moment’s notice.
Lama Zopa Rinpoche, the FPMT's Spiritual Director, was born in 1945 in Thami, not far from the Lawudo cave in the Mount Everest region of Nepal, where his previous incarnation, Lama Kunzang Yeshe, meditated for the last twenty years of his life. At the age of three Rinpoche was recognized as the reincarnation of the Lawudo Lama. From 1956 to 1959 he studied at Domo Monastery in Tibet, and in 1959, he fled Tibet in the wake of the Chinese occupation and continued his study and practice in Tibetan refugee camps in India, where he met Lama Thubten Yeshe (1935-1984), who became his principal teacher. In 1969, the Lamas began teaching Buddhism to Westerners at Kopan Monastery in Kathmandu, Nepal. In 1974 they began traveling the world to spread the Dharma. Lama Thubten Yeshe and Lama Zopa Rinpoche founded the Foundation for the Preservation of the Mahayana Tradition in 1975.
Lama Zopa Rinpoche asked Dr. Nick Ribush to establish Kurukulla Center in 1989.
