Geshela has kindly offered to lead us in a virtual group Tara meditation-recitation session focusing primarily on reciting Tara’s mantra: OM TARE TUTTARE TURE SWAHA. Because today is the 8th day in the Tibetan calendar, it is considered an especially good time to connect with Tara, Mother of all the Buddhas, who embodies enlightened activity. Normally we come together as a group in the gompa (shrine room) on the Tibetan 8th to perform a Tara Puja. It is indeed a blessing that during these stay-at-home days we can continue to do group practice via technology.

Please note, we will not be performing the full length Tara Puja. If you wish, you can still do this as an individual practice. The puja can be found in the Kurukulla Center prayer book beginning of page 199 of the Kurukulla Center Prayers & Practices book.
Pujas are chanting meditations practices and are powerful ways to both create positive energy and to purify negative energy. At Kurukulla Center we regularly hold four pujas every month. The days on which these pujas are held are determined by the Tibetan lunar calendar. The Tibetan lunar calendar is different from the Gregorian solar calendar and because of this, the days on which pujas fall vary month to. According to the Tibetan Calendar we hold Tara Puja on the 8th, Guru Puja on the 10th, Medicine Buddha puja on the 15th, and Guru Puja again on the 25th. For reference, new moon is always the 30th of the Tibetan Calendar and full moon is always the 15th.
