The health of Khen Rinpoche Lama Lhundrup, abbot of Kopan Monastery in Nepal, has improved and he is back at Kopan. Lama Zopa Rinpoche determined that recitations of the Diamond Cutter Sutra are no longer necessary, as some big pujas done on Lama Lhondrup's behalf seem to have helped the situation. Many thanks for those that did recitations - more than 3900 were completed throughout the FPMT!
The 2010 donation receipts (for tax purposes) will be mailed out tomorrow. Many thanks to all our kind donors whose contributions enable us to offer these precious Tibetan Buddhist teachings.
Path of Freedom, Path of Bliss - The Buddhist Journey to Enlightenment with Tsültrim Davis is a nine part series giving an overview of the entire Buddhist path to enlightenment. It will meet February 15 & 22, March 1, 8 & 22, and April 5, 12, 19 & 26. We will begin at the beginning of the path--us, right where we are, now--and explore all the way to the end: complete enlightenment, perfect, unending bliss. This class is appropriate for people with any level of experience with Buddhist meditation or philosophy, or none. Attendance at all nine classes is encouraged but not required. Drop-ins are always welcome!

From Tea Light to Dorje - A Practical Guide to Tibetan Ritual Practice with Ven. Amy Miller 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm While study and meditation are essential on the Buddhist path, ritual practice is enormously helpful for clearing away obstacles and setting up the proper conditions for attaining higher realization. This series demystifies the rituals of our tradition and offers philosophical exploration and practical instruction on things such as water bowl and mandala offerings, prostrations, hand mudras, use of bell and dorje, and recitation of mantras with a mala (Buddhist rosary). Get all of your questions answered during these practical, lively and fun workshops.
Part 2 of this series will be held Thursday, February 10, 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm.
Peace from Chaos - A Tibetan Buddhist Approach to Making Sense of Your Life with Ven. Amy Miller 7:00 pm - 9:00 pm The Tibetan Buddhist tradition of lamrim, the stages of the path to enlightenment, organizes all of the teachings of the Buddha into a logical, practical order that shows us where to start and how to progress on the spiritual path. It is a path of study, contemplation and meditation that leads us from the chaos of our everyday lives to the pinnacle of our spiritual potential. The Friday evening talk will provide a spiritual and philosophical foundation for entering this path and finding peace and meaning in our lives. The practice intensive on Saturday and Sunday will combine teaching, discussion and meditation to develop our basis for contemplation and ignite our practice as we journey the path together. Feel free to listen live online.
While the Friday night talk is a standalone event, if you intend to attend the weekend practice intensive it is requested that you also attend the talk on Friday.
Peace from Chaos - A Tibetan Buddhist Approach to Making Sense of Your Life with Ven. Amy Miller 9:30 am - 2:00 pm Practice Intensive Day 1 of 2 The Tibetan Buddhist tradition of lamrim, the stages of the path to enlightenment, organizes all of the teachings of the Buddha into a logical, practical order that shows us where to start and how to progress on the spiritual path. It is a path of study, contemplation and meditation that leads us from the chaos of our everyday lives to the pinnacle of our spiritual potential. 9:00 am - 9:45 am This powerful purification practice contains the elements of "the four opponent powers" and includes prostration, recitation and visualization. This practice is highly recommended by our teachers. For development along the path it's very important to "weed our garden" or purify the negative seeds on our mindstream. This session is a great opportunity to learn through doing.
10:00 am to 12:00 pm Pabongka Rinpoche's Liberation in the Palm of Your Hand is the seminal lam-rim or stages on the path to enlightenment text of the 20th century. It is a transcription of a 24 day lam rim teaching given in 1921 and lays out the steps one follows to reach liberation and enlightenment. Offered as a "practical teaching," it is less scholarly than Je Tsongkhapa's Great Treatise on the Stages of the Path to Enlightenment, popularly known as the Lam-rim Chen-mo, and as such is the text from which most modern lamas teach lam rim. Today Geshe-la gives commentary on Day 3, on the greatness of the Dharma and how to study and teach Dharma. Feel free to listen live online.
1:30 pm - 6:00 pm Practice Intensive Day 2 of 2 The Tibetan Buddhist tradition of lamrim, the stages of the path to enlightenment, organizes all of the teachings of the Buddha into a logical, practical order that shows us where to start and how to progress on the spiritual path.
