DAY of MIRACLES (Chotrul Düchen)

Today is Chotrul Düchen, the Day of Miracles. Celebrated on the full moon (fifteenth day) of the Tibetan New Year, according to the lunar calendar, it commemorates one of the four great deeds of Shakyamuni Buddha. During the first fifteen days of the New Year, the Buddha showed miraculous powers in order to subdue six tirthikas, or non-Buddhist teachers, who lacked faith in him, and to increase the merit and the devotion of future disciples. During this two week period beginning on Losar, the karmic result of actions is multiplied 100 million times, as cited in the Vinaya scriptures. Therefore, today's full moon is a particularly powerful and important time to create positive energy, virtuous actions, good karma and to refrain and avoid creating non-virtuous actions.

In the morning, Geshe Tenley will confer the 24 Hour Mahayana Precepts (Remotely Only) and in the evening we hold a Medicine Buddha puja (Remotely and In Person at Kurukulla Center).
