Chapter 7, A Guide to the Bodhisattva's Way of Life: Enthusiasm, with Geshe Tenley
Geshe Tenley will lead us in an exploration of Perseverance, or Enthusiastic Effort, as described in Chapter 7 of Bodhisattva Shantideva's A Guide to a Bodhisattva's Way of Life. This acclaimed work helps practitioners develop the admirable qualities of a bodhisattva – those seeking to bring short-term and ultimate benefit to all sentient beings. The bodhicitta aspiration is lofty, maybe even considered unrealistic by some, but Bodhisattva Shantideva uses faultless reasoning to draw us a roadmap for the path, starting with the very first steps, alerting practitioners to the pitfalls and rewards along the way to full enlightenment.
Chapter 7, Enthusiasm, guides the reader to contemplate the consequences of wasting one's life on trivial pursuits, as well as the great benefits of enduring slight hardships to use our quickly passing life for the ultimate purpose of buddhahood.
Resident teacher Geshe Tenley will bring his skillful commentary to these sessions to clarify any questions that may arise as we explore this very special text.
We are also fortunate that Wisdom Publications recently published a commentary by Lama Zopa Rinpoche based on this chapter of Bodhisattva Shantideva's masterpiece – Perseverance: The Determination of a Bodhisattva.
All are welcome to attend!
