Much like Buddhism, the science of nature called Ayurveda provides a time-tested everyday approach to achieving wellbeing in body and mind. Despite its ancient origins on the Indian subcontinent, Ayurveda’s preventative and therapeutic practices for holistic health remain immediately applicable to modern-day humans anywhere.
In this three-week series, complemented by an in-person workshop at the Center on Sunday, Sept. 28th, we will explore the basics of Ayurveda. Topics will include the five natural elements, balance vs. imbalance, qualities of matter, external seasons, and the seasons of life, among others. Each week will begin with a brief lesson including Q&A, and then conclude with a restorative guided meditation to relax and support participants’ integration of class topics.
Anyone is welcome to join, regardless of background or experience. It’s not necessary to attend all three weeks, but attendance at all three is encouraged.

Sarah has been a member of the Kurukulla Center community since December 31, 2007 while attending graduate school at Tufts University. She and her husband were humbled to receive teachings from the late Geshe Tsulga and the warm reception of the sangha, including now resident teacher Geshe Tenley. They quickly realized they’d found their Dharma home! Sarah and her husband Devin served two years as Spiritual Program Coordinators at Kurukulla Center, until the birth of their second child.
Sarah’s calling to serve and heal using eastern and western health sciences grew stronger with time, especially after years of physical, mental, and social-emotional pain. Yet it wasn’t until a transformative trek and retreat in the Himalayas of Nepal guided by Venerable Robina Courtin, that Sarah finally embraced a new path forward.
She currently resides in Vermont with her family and works as a Holistic Health Counselor, guiding individuals, families, and groups through a dynamic array of wellness approaches based on their unique objectives for holistic health. She offers online and in-person services through classes, workshops, training, and private consultations. She holds a Master’s in Child/Family Development, is an Ayurveda Practitioner (Level II), certified Ayurvedic Health Counselor, and Certified Yoga Instructor.
Sarah is infinitely and humbly grateful to all her teachers who have passed on the ancient wisdom tools of their lineages near and far. She acknowledges her privilege in this life to have been granted such blessings despite her Caucasian and California-based roots.
