Introduction to Buddhism: Your Life, Your Mind, Your Choice

Module 1: Buddhism in a Nutshell

What is Buddhism, and why does it keep showing up in conversations about mental health, meaning, and how to live? This module breaks down the foundations: who the Buddha was (a human who woke up, not a deity), what the Four Noble Truths teach about suffering and its causes, and how karma actually works – not as cosmic punishment, but as the natural consequences of intention and action. We'll explore why our mind, not our circumstances, determines our life experience, and what "emptiness" actually means (hint: not nihilism). Think of this as an introduction to understanding how our mind creates our reality, and what we can do about it.

Each module runs for five Saturdays (11/22, 11/29, 12/6, 12/13 and 12/20) from 3:00-5:00 PM. Drop in for one, some, or all—your path, your pace. Free to attend; donations welcome to keep the dharma alive and our doors open.

Seán González joined Kurukulla Center in 2004 and quickly became an integral part of our community. His interest in developing community-driven initiatives motivated him to coordinate large center events, like the Elderhostel "Day of Discovery" programmes, the Maitreya Project Relics Tour visits, and a Center visit by His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama in 2012. These events energized our community into high-gear participation and have greatly expanded Kurukulla's reach to a broader audience. Sean was Center Director from 2012 - 2021, resuming in 2022, and was Assistant Center Director at all other times.
